COMPACT COSMOPOLITAN

The owner of tiny, New York City kitchen wanted to renovate for the long-term. The room was outdated, cluttered, dimly lit and lacked storage.
I began by updating her appliances with high-quality, compact-sized products in clean, stainless steel. Task lighting was improved with compact halogen fixtures placed beheath the upper cabinets. We dropped the original ceiling and carved out space for recessed halogen lights, infusing the tiny room with an ambient glow from above. To maximize storage, I replaced the partition that ran between the kitchen and entry hall with custom cabinetry that functions on many different levels:
inside the kitchen, it houses the refrigerator, hidden from view behind a sleek panel and to the right of the fridge, base drawers hold pots, pans and utensils.
Atop this base of drawers sits a countertop which unites the two spaces.
The counter - clad with durable stone - can be used as a kitchen work area,
a buffet or a bar for coffee and wine.
More storage is cleverly hidden below, behind angled doors.
Around the corner on the foyer side, the cabinet houses china and wine bottles.
A glass-fronted cabinet beneath showcases crystal on brightly lit, glass shelves.
No space is wasted and everything fits!
A lovely new kitchen greets visitors upon entering, in what is now a cosmopolitan setting befitting this sophisticated city dweller.
