"For the first time this morning, I took a shower in my new bathroom and all I can say is that I was - and still am - floating on cloud nine! I absolutely love it!
It felt open and airy and bright!
All in all, I felt like I was truly in a spa bath in some boutique hotel and not in my 'old bathroom'. I'm going to enjoy using my bathroom now whereas before, going in there felt like such a hassle and a chore."
ZEN RETREAT REDUX
Hoboken, NJ
Judging by the Lucite handles on her faucets, I estimated that my client's bathroom was the victim of an early 1980s renovation. We agreed that the room required a 'facelift', since she wanted to retain some of the original elements, but almost
everything else had to go.
With the exception of the whirlpool tub, I updated all of her plumbing fixtures.
The new toilet not only meets code by conserving water, it blends nicely into the floor: a lovely black marble which was cleaned, refinished and polished to a subtle sheen. The custom vanity in cherry veneer floats lightly above the floor and stainless steel basins glimmer from beneath the polished, Black Absolute granite top.
Faucets are sleek and sculptural - in keeping with my client's sophisticated, minimalist aesthetic - and have a subtle, brushed nickel finish.
Evening White paint in a pearl finish complements the original peach marble wall tile,
which has a healthy luster, now that it has been cleaned and repaired.
Recessed ceiling fixtures are energy-efficient halogen and contain frosted lenses which diffuse light, infusing the space with a warm, relaxing ambience.
Double vanity drawers, a triple-door medicine cabinet and low-profile wall hooks provide storage.
Now the perfect setting for a warm bubble bath, a cool relaxing shower, or even a few chants of OM, my client's 1980's bathroom is now up-to-date and infused with new life and a happy glow.
